Who I Am
I'm Eugen, a graduate student from Norway currently pursuing a Master's degree in Mathematics at Boston University. My goal is to eventually become a PhD candidate and contribute to mathematical research.
This website is my attempt to stay accountable — keeping up with coursework, research ideas, and extracurriculars, while reminding myself that iterative, hands-on learning is the approach that works best for me.
Research Interests
My current mathematical interests lie at the intersection of algebra and probability. I am actively learning about:
- Representation Theory — the study of how algebraic structures act on vector spaces
- Probability Theory — foundations and modern techniques
- Neural Networks — the mathematical underpinnings of deep learning
My medium-term goal is to weave these threads together into a cohesive research project, exploring how representation-theoretic tools can shed light on probabilistic models and learning algorithms.
Beyond Academia
Outside of mathematics I am an avid tennis and chess player. I believe staying physically and mentally active outside of study is just as important as the study itself — and the two often reinforce each other in surprising ways.
About This Site
The notebooks on this website are written in Clojure and rendered using Clay and Quarto, inspired by the Clojure Civitas community.
I find Clojure's interactive, REPL-driven workflow ideal for mathematical exploration — it keeps the feedback loop tight and the code close to the mathematics.
